The whys and wherefores unknown.
A little boy was as tantalized as I was by the sight, and he plucked up the cup and carried it down the sidewalk to show family, then deposited it in another yard.
For all I know, this cup has been similarly picked up, carried, and re-deposited, over and over, for miles.
