Antigua, Guatemala: Tanque la Union

Tanque la Union Park, Antigua, Guatemala. April 2016.

My favorite place in Antigua, maybe.

The "tanque" is the centerpiece. The curvaceous lines, the straight lines, the yellows, umbers, dusky grays, rusty reds, beat-up whites. The smooth, rough, exposed surfaces. The water, sometimes still and mirror-like, sometimes ripply.

The park attracts lovers, vendors, families, schoolkids on breaks, church-goers, domestic and international tourists, birds. There are towering palms, all overlooked by the surrounding mountains.

Sometimes it is noisy and clotted with people.

Other times, especially in early morning and at dusk, very quiet except for birds.

How lucky I was to have this park on my daily route to school and back.
