Back here, a renovation began on Rustavi's main square, called locally "the may-ree-ah." "May-ree-ah" is, basically, the city hall.
The renovation prompted a seismic shift in the marshrutka and bus traffic, as the vehicles had to detour around the square, finding new routes for points A to B, sometimes to the passengers' consternation.
Workers labored day and night, as they had a deadline - the Rustavi Kalakhoba - to meet to achieve a certain completion benchmark, else the contractor would be fined.

The buildings overlooking the plaza received new coats of paint, refurbished metal balconies, stylish awnings, attractive lighting.

A pretty, shell-shaped, cobblestone pattern on the plaza floor emerged.

Huge street lights, looking gas-lightish, rose up to tower over the square. The stately city hall got some cosmetic make-up, also, and looked fine.
