Many years ago, transportation by horse, train, or ship meant days en route to reach one's destination. One lingered at distant relatives' or friends' houses for weeks, or even months, at a time.










Some modern-day non-rooteds put a new spin on such long-term visiting.

Kenya Robinson, author of Inflatable Mattress, is a "serial sleepover artist" in Manhattan who brought her own twin-size air mattress to her hosts' (mostly strangers) homes.

Then there's Ed Casabian, the NYC Nomad, who stays at a friend or stranger's house in a different neighborhood every week.
